Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local migrant/wanderer.

This is predominantly a coastal moth in the UK, the larvae feeding on various herbaceous plants. The main population is in the south and west of the country and our moths are somewhat of an outlying population. It has not been recorded in the county since 2019 and may not be currently resident in Yorkshire, but it does seem to occur at Spurn quite regularly and also occasionally further up the coast in the Flamborough area, so it may form temporary colonies at times. If it is resident at Spurn, it maintains a remarkably low profile.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This has only been recorded once in Yorkshire, caught by B. R. Spence in the Rothamsted Insect Survey trap (trap 131) operated at Spurn (VC61) on 16th August 1972 (BRS). Most frequent in the south of England, there are scattered colonies all around Britain. These are mainly on the coast except in the area of London and the Home Counties (Skinner, 1984).
