Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This is a moth of damp areas, the larvae feeding on marsh bedstraw and sometimes other bedstraws. Porritt knew it from Askham Bog, Pontefract and Scarborough. Nationally it has been lost from many areas but in Yorkshire the situation is a little more encouraging. The Atlas tells us that the Vale of York is a particular national stronghold. This is almost entirely due to large numbers appearing in the Rothamsted trap at Wheldrake and also big counts at Askham Bog. A count of 42 at Wheldrake on 23/6/2015 remains our biggest count. Alas we have no RIS traps left in Yorkshire now, though there is still plenty of trapping in the Lower Derwent Valley. In recent years we have been receiving more records in the western limestone Dales where it seems to appear in small numbers at new sites every year.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There have been several new sites found for this species since the late 1960s. However it is not yet possible to ascertain whether there are any established colonies or just mere wanderers from other areas. It must be spreading to some extent, however, to produce so many odd sightings.
