Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This is a rather local species in Yorkshire, usually associated with damp woodland with alder, but also feeding on blackthorn and sometimes seen in gardens. It is uncommon in VC63 and in the east of VC61. Well over 90% of our records are of single moths, implying either that it occurs at a low density or that it may not be very keen on coming to light. Like one or two Geometrid species, it has a habit of sitting on the outside of the moth trap rather than entering it. The population is probably fairly stable. We were a little concerned it was declining, then received 44 records in 2022.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: A rather local moth which is generally associated with alder.

Recorded in 118 (59%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1880.
Last Recorded in 2023.
