Yorkshire Status: Fairly common and fairly widespread resident.

This has always been a common species in the county and our population seems to be very healthy. Numbers have increased a little in recent years. Once you have seen a few you will have no trouble identifying fresh specimens as the wing markings are distinctive. The problems occur when it becomes more worn when it can become a little tricky. A common situation with many species of Pugs!

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Now quite widely recorded over all five vice-counties. Whether this is an increase in population, an increase in recorders, or both is difficult to ascertain.

Recorded in 141 (71%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1880.
Last Recorded in 2023.
