Yorkshire Status: Rare and local resident.

This has never been a common species in Yorkshire despite its foodplants, greater burnet-saxifrage (Pimpinella major) and burnet-saxifrage (Pimpinella saxifraga) being fairly common. It is rather local in the county but in the area north of Ripon can be surprisingly common. It almost certainly feeds on greater burnet-saxifrage there as it is a very common plant in the hedgerows. Over in VC61 however at Muston, larvae have been found on burnet-saxifrage. When fresh it is fairly distinctive with an ochreous-brown and almost pinkish tinge in the centre of the forewing, together with a bold discal spot and wavy pale subterminal line. It seems to have been recorded a little more frequently in recent years, but nationally it is quite a scarce species and seems to have been lost from several areas. Perhaps "tidying up" of road verges is the problem.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Always a scarce species in Yorkshire, we now have a few more localities.
