Yorkshire Status: Uncommon and fairly widespread resident.

This attractive moth is rather patchily distributed across the county, both in upland and lowland areas. Inexperienced observers sometimes confuse this species with Common Heath, but that species rests with its wings held flat and the males has very feathery antennae. Latticed Heath rests with its wings held partially open and the antennae are more simple. At some sites in the east and south of the county it can be seen by day in large numbers for example 50 at Eskavon on 16/5/2014. It comes to light in smaller numbers. Its favourite haunts are calcareous grassy areas with vetches, clovers and lucerne. Numbers may have declined a little in recent years.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Local, but occurring in all five vice-counties in grassy areas where clovers, trefoils and lucerne grow. Apparently clumps of tufted vetch among long grass is a common feature of many sites (PQW pers. comm.).

Recorded in 138 (69%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2023.
