Yorkshire Status: Very common and widespread resident.

This is our commonest Thorn and is widespread across the county in two broods which do not overlap. It is an easy moth to identify as it is the only Thorn which rests with its wings held together. Moths from the second generation are smaller and paler. It is common in a variety of habitats and often visits gardens.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Occurs locally in wooded areas in all five vice-counties. Occasionally noted as a wanderer in other habitats.
