Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

This is a common and widespread moth over much of the county it is often disturbed by day and commonly flies at dusk. It is most at home in woodland and scrub but is often seen in gardens. We have a healthy population in Yorkshire and numbers are stable. Take care not to confuse it with the browner Common Wave which has more curved cross lines. It is not obvious whether it has one brood or two closely overlapping broods.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Rather local over much of VC61 in areas with woodland and overgrown hedges on low-lying damp ground. Widely recorded and often frequent or common over the other four vice-counties. This is one of many moths which in Yorkshire is just beyond its northern limit for being bivoltine, so in most years there is only one generation, but in favourable seasons there may be a partial second brood.
