Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local migrant/wanderer.

This attractive migrant species occasionally turns up in Yorkshire. We now have 22 records but we can go for several years without seeing it - the last one was in 2016. It's main home is tropical Africa and India though in warm years there may be colonies in North Africa and Southern Europe so this may be where our records originate from.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There are two recent records of this rare migrant in Yorkshire. Two previously unmentioned older records have also come to light.
