Yorkshire Status: Uncommon migrant.

Great Brocade is a native species in the northern half of Scotland, the larvae feeding on bog-myrtle. Elsewhere it is a migrant, moths being paler than our native race, and flying a little later. A small number crop up in most years, but sometimes there are much bigger arrivals. This seems always to have been the case, and Porritt documented big numbers seen in 1880 and 1897 when he commented it occurred "in almost every part of the county, then for many years can scarcely be found anywhere". There was another influx in 1995 with large numbers seen at Malham Tarn, but the biggest numbers occurred in 2006 (37 records) and 2007 (41 records).

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This moth is a regular migrant to vice-counties 61 and 62, mostly near the coast. Occasional specimens have also been recorded from the other vice-counties. Apart from a dark specimen recorded near York (VC62) in July 1983 (AHF) most records have stated that it was the lighter coloured Continental form that has been found. It is now not possible to tell whether the York specimen was the Scottish form or just an unusually dark immigrant.
