Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

In 1907 Porritt described Green Arches as "not generally common but found in big woods in almost all parts of the county". This is very much a woodland moth, and most of our records come from the north and west of Yorkshire. Its scarcity in VC61 is understandable as there is a lack of broad-leaved woodland, but the lack of records in the east of VC63 is harder to explain. It seems to be happier in upland areas. The lack of a VC65 record in 1989 when Sutton and Beaumont was written is probably just down to a lack of recorders in VC65. Numbers in Yorkshire seem to be quite healthy in recent years, and counts in some areas are often into double figures, the maximum being 21 at Ilkley on 7/7/2013. This is a very attractive moth when fresh, but like a lot of green moths, the colour fades after it has been on the wing for a week or two, and some moths have no green scales left, which can fool inexperienced observers.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: A rather local species in Yorkshire, but more widely recorded in the last few years than for several years previously. The Malham (VC64) and North York Moors (VC62) records suggest this is a relatively common moth on higher ground where woodland occurs. However, there is no VC65 record and no recent one from VC63.
