Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

"Abundant on heaths, flying in the hot sunshine" said George Porritt in 1883. It is not quite as abundant is probably was back then, and we tend to get between ten and 20 records per year. It is still very much a moth of heathland and heather moorland, so it occurs in upland heathery areas and on our lowland heaths, in two overlapping generations. In good habitat it can be seen in healthy numbers at times, for example 50 at Allerthorpe Common on 26/6/2006. All the biggest totals are of day-flying moths, though 10% of our records are of moths coming to light. Another 10% of records are of the distinctive larva.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This day flying species is probably quite frequent on high moors and heaths but there are few recent records to support this. There is no VC65 record.

Recorded in 67 (34%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1880.
