Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

In 1907 Porritt's comments were "occurs probably everywhere, but only sparingly in some parts of the south-west; in some districts very abundant". This is a moth of broad-leaved woodland, often coming into gardens, but slightly less often than some of the other Orthosia species. It is therefore much less common in treeless parts of the county. Numbers are healthy in Yorkshire and may have increased a little in recent years. Big numbers can occur in broad-leaved woodland in Spring, the maximum being 357 at Ellington Banks on 23/3/2011.
