Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local resident.

This very local elm-feeding species used to be more common. Porritt in 1883 was aware of several sites where it occurred. Like other elm-feeders, Dutch elm disease did not do it a favour, and it was lost from many of its old haunts, but not to the same extent as White-spotted Pinion. It occurs in Yorkshire in a line down the centre of the county along the magnesian limestone belt, with most records coming from the south of VC63 and the Ripon area. It has recently been found at sites close to the Tees. Moths occasionally turn up at Spurn, and it is not obvious where they have wandered from. Our populations are amongst the most northerly in the country. It seems to exist at a very low density, or perhaps does not come strongly to light, as the maximum trapped at once is just three moths. With such low numbers, it is difficult to know how it is doing in the county.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Now rare in the County, probably due to the decline of the English elm, especially in the south where the moth was previously most widespread.

Recorded in 26 (13%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1871.
