Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident and probable migrant.

In 1883, Porritt described Pale Mottled Willow as "very common everywhere". This is still the case, though it is a little less common in upland areas. It occurs in two fairly equal broods but can turn up at any time of year, in fact it has occurred in every month except for January. Many moths turn up with southerly winds at times of high migrant activity, and it is likely that numbers in the county are augmented by migration. Numbers in the county are healthy and may have increased a little in recent years. The larvae feed on grass seeds, so it is commonest in "unimproved" grassland.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Fairly widespread and frequently recorded from all five vice-counties. As elsewhere in Britain it appears to be associated with hay, both during harvesting and in storage.

Recorded in 144 (72%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1846.
Last Recorded in 2023.
