Yorkshire Status: Very local resident.

In 1883 Porritt said that this species was only known to occur at Askham Bog "where it flies on sunny afternoons and just before dusk" - a statement attributed to William Prest. It has not been seen there since. From the 1970s it has been been regularly found in good numbers at Skipwith Common and to a lesser extent at Skipwith and Allerthorpe Commons. The only records from Thorne Moors are 1959 and 1970. Our populations are geographically isolated and must have been there for a long time, so it is curious that they were unknown to Porritt. It does occasionally turn up in other places. A particularly interesting record was from Rishworth in the west of VC63 in 2021. There is a population just over the border in Lancashire which might be expanding. Silver Hook is often disturbed in the daytime but also comes to light. All the biggest counts are from Strensall Common for example 18 seen by day on 13/7/2008.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Several new localities have now been found for this species. However, it has still not been rediscovered at Askham Bog (VC64), its original Yorkshire locality (Porritt, 1883-86).
