Yorkshire Status: Scarce and local resident.

This species of unimproved grassland has slowly declined across the country and this is mirrored in Yorkshire. Most of our records come from scattered sites in the east of VC63. A record at North Cave Wetlands in 2023 was the first in VC61 for eight years which gives ground for cautious optimism, but it has not been seen in VC64 since 1987. At the only VC65 colony at Ballowfields NR, it has not been seen since 2017. This site also holds Cistus Forester and it is easy to confuse the two species!

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There are now records from all five vice-counties. Although widespread it is certainly not common and there are fewer localities than on the last list (YNU, 1970).

Recorded in 45 (23%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1882.
Last Recorded in 2023.
