Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This species first occurred in the county in 1991 with large numbers recorded in VC61 in the North Cave area and also in VC63. Since then it has been slowly expanding its range and numbers, but has never been common across the county. It appeared in VC64 in 2004, VC62 in 2007 and VC65 in 2009, but numbers seemed to dwindle and it was never common. In 2022 it underwent a major expansion, with 58 records of 74 moths recorded from 47 sites all across the county, including 15 new 10K squares. Many of these new sites were in the north of VC62, and there was been spread that year to Durham and into Northumberland well north of Newcastle. 2023 was an even healthier year with 77 records of 104 moths from 50 sites though there was not such a dramatic range expansion. It did however reach Scotland for the first time. It continues to be uncommon in the west of the county, probably because of a lack of suitable habitat. This is a moth of mature beech woodland. It tends not to wander too far from its food plant. Take care not to confuse it with Oak Hook-tip.

Recorded in 66 (33%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1991.
Last Recorded in 2023.
