Yorkshire Status: Fairly widespread resident.

We are near the northern limit of the distribution of this species on the east side of the country; in the west it reaches southern Scotland. It seems to be doing well in the county and numbers are stable. The larvae feed on a variety of broad-leaved trees but seem to prefer hawthorn. It frequents woodlands, scrub and parkland, and is commonly seen in gardens. Numbers at light occasionally reach double figures. It remains uncommon in the north-west of the county.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This moth has become much more frequent in certain parts of its range, mainly in VC64.
