Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local resident.

We often receive records for this species but unfortunately virtually all of these are misidentifications or typos. This Clematis vitalba-feeding species is extremely rare. It was unknown to Porritt, however there is an old unpublished (and probably unconfirmed) record from Birstwith in 1886. The first confirmed record was from Spurn on 9/7/1994 and another moth was found at Bellflask near Ripon on 9/7/1999. Clematis vitalba occurs at this site. Do we have a population in Yorkshire? Is it lurking amongst traveller's-joy somewhere down the magnesian limestone belt? It probably is, and it may not be strongly attracted to light. Like many green moths, the colour fades rapidly and many moth are extremely pale.
