Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt described this moth as "widely distributed and generally common" in 1883. That can certainly not be said today, as it is a rather local and elusive species. We receive very few records, and in some years it fails to appear at all. Most records are from central areas in the county. It has not been seen in VC63 since 1999, and the first confirmed record for VC65 was not until 2023. When it does appear, it does so in very small numbers, and 93% of our records are of single moths. It may not be strongly attracted to light. The field guide tells us that it can be found at dusk around low birch scrub, though virtually all of our records are of moths to light. Like many green moths, it rapidly loses its colour, though the cross lines should just about be still visible. The situation seems to be the same across the country in that it has disappeared from many of its old haunts, and populations are becoming more isolated.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There are a few additional records since 1970 but it would appear that this woodland species is still generally elusive.

Recorded in 34 (17%) of 200 10k Squares.
