Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local. No recent record.

This beautifully marked species is a moth of old field maple woodland, usually on chalky soils. The range has contracted significantly in recent years and it has been confined to southern counties of England for some time. In Porritt's time the situation was different and in 1883 he remarked that it was "not uncommon in woods where the maple grows freely" and mentioned records from Edlington Wood (common), Leeds at Burley, Sheffield and York. In 1970 Rutherford noted "it used to occur in the south of the county, particularly in Edlington Wood, but has not been recorded there for fifty years. A single specimen was taken near Knaresborough in the late 1950s and this is the only recent record". It is highly unlikely that we will see this species again in the county, despite recent climatic change.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There are no recent reports for this very local woodland moth. It was last recorded in Yorkshire near Knaresborough (VC64) in the late 1950s (YNU, 1970).

Recorded in 4 (2%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
