Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local resident.

This species, along with Cream Wave and Smoky Wave, is a common cause of confusion. It is a scarce moth in Yorkshire and is very local. It tends to like damp grassy areas with meadowsweet and commmon valerian, and is often seen flying late in the day, though it does come to light in small numbers. Records from inexperienced observers (most of us concerning this species!) should be accompanied by a photograph. Compared to Cream Wave, it is a little smaller and the wing tip is not quite as pointed. The central black dots on forewings and hindwings is usually fairly prominent. Most recent records are from the eastern half of VC63 and from Spurn, though it almost certainly exists in other under-recorded areas in the county. It has probably never been a common moth in Yorkshire, and Porritt described it as "rather local" and "not common".

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Only recently positively recorded from two sites. It rarely comes to light (Skinner, 1984) and may be confused with S. floslactata (Haworth) and S. ternata (Schrank). There are several unconfirmed records from VC62 and one from VC64. VC61. Spurn, 14.7.1982 (BRS).

Recorded in 20 (10%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1857.
Last Recorded in 2022.
