Yorkshire Status: Scarce and local migrant/wanderer.

This migrant species was unknown to Porritt, the first Yorkshire record being not until 1961. Since then it has become increasingly common and it is now an unusual year if we do not receive any records. The peak number of records was 40 in 2022. Although many records are coastal, compared to other migrants there are a lot reported in inland locations.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This previously rare migrant has recently become a more frequent visitor. There was a great influx into Britain in 1983 from which several Yorkshire records came and there have been more reports since (most 1983 records are in Bretherton & Chalmers-Hunt, 1984). Dunn and Parrack (1986) report that in 1985 it was even more frequent in the North. This did not seem to be the case in Yorkshire, although several were recorded in that year.

Recorded in 70 (35%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1961.
Last Recorded in 2023.
