This species languishes in Appendix B (questionable records) in the current checklist. Old 19th century records from Perth, Yorkshire and Kent are regarded as unconfirmed. Our records come from Porritt's lists where the following appears:

1883. Lythria purpuraria L. The following notice on this species is published in the Entomologists' Monthly Magazine for March 1970, 6: 238 - "I have two specimens of this rare insect taken in Stockton Forest, four miles from here by Henry Baines. These are set with short household pins, were taken at the same place, and by the same captor as my old Acidalia rubricata (ie Tawny Wave) which species has since been taken in the same locality, TH Allis, Osbaldwick, near York, February 1870"
1904 Mr John T Carrington who formerly resided at York confirms the record in the previous list of this species
