Yorkshire Status: Thinly distributed or restricted resident.

This moth is commonest in damp woodland. It was first found in Yorkshire as recently as 1978 and since then has been slowly spreading north and to a lesser extent west. It occurs well up into Northumberland now but is still rare in Lancashire and the adjacent western parts of Yorkshire. We usually recieve between 200 and 300 records per year and the situation seems to be stable at present. Counts well into double figures are not uncommon in central parts of the county. It has a restricted distribution in the UK, being absent from many southern and south-western counties.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This species is slowly increasing its northwards range, at first moving up the coast and now also inland. First found in Yorkshire at light in 1978 at Hornsea Mere by R. Hawley.
