Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local vagrant.

This extremely rare migrant species has only occurred three times in the UK - near Carlisle "prior to 1855", near York on 19/8/1866 and on Guernsey in 1973. It is resident in Europe up to the Channel coast so it is perhaps surprising we have not had more records in the UK. Porritt notes "a very fine specimen of this species, of which only one or two others are known to have occurred in Britain, was taken by Mr W Prest among broom near York on August 19th 1866. The record appeared in Entomologists Annual under "Notes on New and Rare British Lepidoptera". The larvae feed on broom and dyer's greenweed so it interesting that a wandering moth found the correct food plant. The Field Guide and the Atlas regard the two earliest records as unconfirmed, though the Field Guide tells us that both are supported by specimens.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: The last British record of this species was from Holgate, near York (VC64), on 19 August 1866 by Mr W. Prest (Porritt, 1883-86).
