Yorkshire Status: Scarce and local resident.

In Yorkshire this is mainly a moth of upland areas in the west of the county where the larvae feed on bedstraws. In most of the country it tends to be coastal, and we have a secondary population in the Flamborough area where it is recorded most years. It also turns up from time to time at Spurn, but has been less common in recent years. The source of these moths is a bit of a mystery as it is not likely to be resident here. We have seen this moth misidentified on a number of occasions, usually with Common Carpet and Silver-ground Carpet - the latter being rather variable and occasionally sporting a dark central bar, so records from outside the usual areas should be viewed with suspicion. Nationally it is doing badly and has been lost from many areas. In Yorkshire it is probably stable.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Has spread slightly over the last few years and is now found as far north as Flamborough in VC61 and from VC62 where it had not been recorded for many years (Porritt, 1883-86).
