Yorkshire Status: Fairly widespread resident.

This attractive Carpet moth feeds on bedstraw species and is a little local in the county. It is considerably commoner in upland areas and is much rarer in VC61, eastern VC63 and central areas. The only exception is Spurn where it is still regular. Counts into double figure are occasionally seen at places like Malham Tarn, Colt Park and Foxglove Covert, but 85% of records are of single moths. Numbers are probably fairly stable in Yorkshire.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Quite local but found in all five vice-counties and sometimes frequent away from heavily populated areas. In the east of the County it seems to occur where heath bedstraw, or occasionally lady's bedstraw are found (PQW pers. comm.), but foodplant preferences over the rest of the County are not known.

Recorded in 129 (65%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2023.
