Yorkshire Status: Thinly distributed or restricted resident.

Like most members of this genus, Mottled Grey feeds on bedstraws. It is much commoner in upland areas in the north and west of the county though it is seen in smaller numbers at times in the lowlands. This is one of the many species which is doing poorly in the south-east of England but faring better in the north and west, suggesting climatic change is a major factor. The biggest counts have come from the Rothamsted trap at Colt Park in upper Ribblesdale which is no longer running.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Most frequent on moors but also occurs locally in some lowland heath and woodland localities.
