Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This beautiful moth is a species of damp woodland and scrubby areas, the larvae feeding on sallows. Almost 90% of our records are of single moths, suggesting that it does not come strongly to light. It has probably never been particularly common in the county - Porritt labelled it "pretty but uncommon". Numbers in the county seem to be stable.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There have recently been several records for this species from vice-counties 61, 63 and 64. Previously it had not been recorded since 1914 (YNU, 1970), although Walsh (1956) mentions several 'of late years'.
