Yorkshire Status: Common and fairly widespread resident.

This univoltine species flies later than Rivulet and often appears with the second brood of that species. Records in May and early June are often misidentifications of Rivulet. The two species can have very similar markings at times but there is little overlap in size. It is well distributed across the county in good numbers. Apart from the identification features noted under Rivulet, Small Rivulet often has a faint additional cross band nearer to the base of the wing. The larvae are said to feed on Common Hemp Nettle but the moth often appears where the foodplant does not occur so there may be other plants involved.
