Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local resident. Possibly extinct.

We really do not know if this beautiful moth still occurs in the county. We remain hopeful as it is well known to disappear from areas for many years and then miraculously reappear. It was unknown to Porritt and was first identified at Askham Bog in 1987. All subsequent records have been from this site apart from a single larval record at Strensall Common in 1999. The last record was of a larva on common meadow-rue in 2011. The food plant is not doing particularly well at Askham Bog and despite a major increase in trapping activity in recent years it has not been refound. There are other areas with meadow rue in the county and it is not impossible that it is still lurking undetected at other sites. Our records are the most northerly. The main population is East Anglia.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This moth was officially added to the Yorkshire list in 1987 with the capture of a specimen at Askham Bog (VC64) by P. Forder and N. Gill. It has since been revealed (RSK pers. comm.) that a larva of this species had been recorded here previously but the record was kept in confidence. More larvae have since been found at the same site.
