Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local resident.

Barred Tooth-striped was first found at Grass Wood in 1959 - an adult on an ash trunk. The comments in Sutton and Beaumont implying that it was known by Porritt is probably a mistake (see Porritt's lists). There were few records in the next 50 years, but since 2010 there has been increased attention given to the Grass Wood area and a lot more moth trapping. This has resulted in many records, and since 2017 a commercial pheromone lure has been available and has proved to be very successful. We certainly have a proper colony in the area. Larvae have been found, on wild privet but also on ash. In 2018 moths were found in woodland several miles away in Littondale and it has been recorded there several times since, and in 2022 it was found in another patch of woodland further up the valley. This is all very encouraging. Our population is isolated from the nearest records in the Morecambe Bay area. Populations across England and Scotland are widely scattered though historic records show that it must have been more widespread in the past. The map just shows records to a 10K square accuracy in order to protect some of the sites which are sensitive.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This species has only been recorded from one location since Porritt (1883-86, 1904): Grass Wood near Grassington (VC64) in 1959 and again in 1962 (YNU, 1970). It has not been recorded since.
