Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

This seems always to have been a fairly common and widespread moth across the county. It is the most frequently-encountered Thorn in early Autumn. Numbers are stable in Yorkshire. In suitable woodland it can appear in good numbers for example 53 at Fenn Carr in VC63 on 18/7/2023. It is usually a fairly easy moth to identify with its prominent bright hairy "canary-coloured" thorax.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Frequently recorded in all five vice-counties. Most common in the vicinity of woodland at a wide range of altitudes.
