Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt regarded this species as rare in 1883 and was only aware of records from Scarborough and York. There were only scattered records until the 1970s then it gradually became more common and numbers built up. It became much rarer again in the early 2000s but since 2006 it has occurred every year and numbers have built up considerably to a maximum of 87 records in 2022. Particularly large numbers have come from Thorne Moor in recent years with a maximum of an amazing 42 on 9/5/2021. It is now not uncommon in parts of the south and east of the county. The range has not altered a lot and it is still very rare in VC65.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Previously very rare in Yorkshire (Porritt, 1883-86) and then not recorded for many years (YNU, 1970). This species has undergone a remarkable range extension since 1974, although it has not been recorded from VC65.
