Yorkshire Status: Thinly distributed or restricted resident.

As its name suggests, this is a moth of birch woodland where it seems to like mature trees. It is well distributed across Yorkshire apart from the north-west of the county and the east of VC61 where there is little suitable woodland. It rarely strays to other locations such as gardens. Although most our records are of single moths, in good woodland counts can reach double figures. It has done well in recent years with healthy numbers recorded.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Now quite widely recorded in vice-counties 62 to 64, but very local in VC61 and there is only one VC65 record.
