Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local migrant/wanderer.

This migrant species is not common in Yorkshire, though a major influx into the country in 2022 brought us five records in the east of the county. This is typical behaviour as influxes tend to be few and far between. Its range is from Africa up to northern shores of the Mediterranean and across to southern India, China and Japan. Larvae have only been seen once in Yorkshire, in 1949, and these would be unlikely to survive the winter.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There are no recent records of this rare migrant in Yorkshire. The last was from Askwith, near Otley (VC64) in 1949 (YNU, 1970). However on map 14 in MBGBI 9 it is shown that there have been between one and three recorded in each vice-county between 1940 and 1978.
