Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

Swallow Prominent is a common species and is widespread in good numbers across the county. It is common in woodland with willows and poplars, and often comes to gardens. Usually it is very easy to tell apart from the shorter-winged and usually brigher and prettier Lesser Swallow Prominent, the pale forewing wedge being longer and thinner. Just occasionally however, moths appear which even the best of us find difficult to determine, even when fresh. Moths appear in two overlapping broods; the second being larger. Our population seems to be healthy and stable, and catches can sometimes reach double figures.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Recorded fairly frequently from vice-counties 61 to 64, but less widely in VC65. Slightly more widely distributed than the previous species [Lesser Swallow Prominent] in the east of the County and often also more common.
