Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local. No recent record.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Not recorded since Porritt (1883-86). He reported this moth as very local, from Bramham (VC64), Richmond (VC65), Spurn (VC61) and York (VC61/62/64) in the early 1860s.

Current status (CHF, 2011): Last recorded 1883 - possibly the best candidate for a "first since Porritt". Populations still exist on moorland in Durham, and records in Weardale are very close to our northern border. This moth may remain undetected in the under-recorded northern wilds of VC65.

2012 (CHF): An old BRC record from Upper Teesdale has surfaced dated before 1940 which could mean any date from 1880 to 1940. This is certainly the best area to search for Dark Tussock.
