Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Appears to have spread considerably since the last list (YNU, 1970). However it has been suggested (PQW pers. comm.) that it is being confused with N. mundana (Linnaeus), since many sites are not marsh or fenland, the typical habitat for this species.
Current status (CHF, 2011): Still not uncommon at Spurn and in other areas such as north of Ripon and Askham Bog, but numbers have gradually decreased. The only Footman to be declining.
