Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

In 1883 Porritt described Muslin Footman as "generally distributed and plentiful" and in 1907 "on old walls, probably throughout the county". Perhaps we don't have so many old walls nowadays, as this is very much a moth of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, especially in calcareous areas. In the south and east of the county it is much more unusual, though there are several records from Spurn. Sometimes it can be numerous, eg 424 on 3/7/2009 on the YNU outing to Kettlewell. Numbers in Yorkshire seem to be stable.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Rather local in Yorkshire, and rare in industrial areas where lichens are scarce. In the high pastures of the Dales the larvae live in dry stone walls, coming out at night to feed on the lichens on the stones.

Recorded in 108 (54%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1847.
Last Recorded in 2023.
