Yorkshire Status: Very rare wanderer/migrant.

Pigmy Footman is bucking the trend by being one of the few Footman species not to be expanding across the county. It is confined to coastal areas from Kent to Norfolk. Records away from this area are considered to be wandering moths or migrants. We have had three records; Spurn in 1990 and 2003, and Flamborough in 2008. These are the most northerly records in the country. As its name suggests, it is far smaller than other Footman species so there should be no confusion. It is however possible to mistake it for a micro moth - Crambus perlella. Like all Footmen, it is a lichen-feeder, in this case, lichens on stones, plant stems and posts.
