Yorkshire Status: Rare and local resident.

Clouded Buff is predominantly a moth of heathland and moorland. Larvae have never been found in Yorkshire but from where our moths are found, most likely feed on heather, though it is known to utilise other herbaceous plants. The majority of our records come from lowland heaths (Strensall, Allerthorpe and Skipwith) and from upland sites in the east of VC62, though it does occasionally turn up in other places. It has not been recorded from Thorne Moor since 1978. Particularly large numbers occur at Strensall, both at light and in the daytime, and counts there sometimes reach double figures. There do not appear to have been any recent changes in abundance.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: The distribution of this species in Yorkshire would appear to have changed very little in the past twenty years. It remains very local and confined to a small number of moorland and heathland sites.
