Yorkshire Status: Rare migrant and possible transitory resident.

This is a species of coastal sand dunes, the larvae feeding on bird's-foot trefoil and clovers. In the UK it is usually a migrant to south-eastern counties, but is thought to form temporary colonies at times. It first appeared at Spurn in 1980, and there were several more records at this site in the 1980s and even one at Flamborough in 1982. It may well have been resident at this time, but since then, records have been few and far-between. These have all been at Spurn - in 1995, 2003 and 2018. It is difficult to predict what will happen in the future.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Formerly a resident in southern Britain, this species is now only recognised as a migrant and temporary resident. It was added to the Yorkshire list in 1980 and there have been several records since, at Spurn (BRS) and Flamborough (Winter, 1983).
