Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local migrant/wanderer.

Crescent Dart is a species of coastal cliffs and rocky shorelines in the south and west of the country. It is not the sort of species you would expect to turn up in Yorkshire, so one at Great Ayton on 4/8/1999 was a major surprise. In 2021 there were more surprises with single moths turned up at Romanby on 21st July and Loftus on 25th July. The Atlas tells us that "occasional wanderers are seen inland", but this all seems a bit odd to me, and there is no doubt that it is expanding - it was unknown in Scotland until 1999 and is now regular in the south-west. It will be interesting to see if we get any more.
