Yorkshire Status: Abundant and widespread resident.

In 1907 Porritt described Clouded Drab as "abundant everywhere". This is still the case, and it is one of the commonest spring species, occurring all across the county in a great variety of forms and colours. It is less common in areas without trees. Counts of over 100 are not uncommon; the maximum being 492 at Ellington Banks on 23/3/2011. The main confusion species is Lead-coloured Drab, and inexperienced recorders may assume that "lead-coloured" forms of Clouded Drab are this species. Clouded Drab however is longer-winged and the males have filiform (threadlike) antennae unlike the bipectinate (feathery) antennae of Lead-coloured Drab, and those with good eyesight can see this without magnification.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Frequent to common in all five vice-counties and like the last [ie Common Quaker], occurs in a variety of forms.

Recorded in 167 (84%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1879.
Last Recorded in 2024.
