Yorkshire Status: Common and fairly widespread resident.

"Fairly common probably everywhere" said Porritt in 1907. This is still the case, and it can be found all over the county with the exception of most of the western parts of VC64 and 65. Numbers are healthy and have increased a little recently. Although this is a single-brooded species, late moths have been seen in recent years including three October records in 2023. Counts commonly reach double figures, the maximum being 34 at Farnham Gravel Pits on 28/6/1992.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Previously reported as 'Widely distributed but evidently not as common as might be expected' (YNU, 1970). This species has now been much more frequently recorded, especially in the east of the County.
