Yorkshire Status: Scarce and local resident.

This moth of damp woodland was formerly much commoner in Yorkshire. Porritt in 1907 described it as "very common" and said that it "occurs probably everywhere where sallows grow freely". This is no longer the case, and this is a very local and rather elusive species. We usually receive fewer than ten records per year. Nationally it seems to have been in decline for many years. Virtually all our records come from VC62 and 64. Despite this, in the few areas where it does occur, it can be locally common, in particular at Ellingon Banks north of Ripon, where the maximum count is 56 on 17/7/2022.
