Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

In 1907 Porritt described Brindled Green as "Widely distributed and fairly common generally, though scarce in some parts of the south-west". To an extent this is still the case, though is is absent from large parts of the west of Yorkshire and some parts of the east. In oak woodland in the centre of the county it can be moderately common, and numbers have been healthy in recent years. It is usually seen in ones and twos, but in some sites it can be commoner, particularly at Austerfield where the maximum catch is 30 on 13/9 and 22/9/2020. It is usually an easy moth to identify, however like many green moths, it tends to lose its colour after being on the wing for a while, and brown examples can have inexperienced observers scratching their heads!

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: At the time of the 1970 list (YNU, 1970) this species had become quite rare in the County. It now seems to be increasing again, but it is still generally local and uncommon.
